Julian Edelman shut down Tom Brady-fueled speculation about joining the Bucs

Tom Brady tried, at least.

Longtime New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman retired back in April after injury issues ended his 12-year NFL career. But shortly after his announcement, speculation emerged about a possible reunion with Tom Brady in Tampa.

Brady joked in an NFL Draft show with Deion Sanders that Edelman didn’t really retire — he was just too scared to tell Bill Belichick he wanted to go to Tampa Bay.

Well, despite Brady’s best efforts to get his longtime teammate to join him and Rob Gronkowski with Buccaneers, Edelman is staying retired.

He said in a podcast appearance with Michael Irvin this week that he’s a “one-team guy.”

He said via the Boston Globe’s Ben Volin:

“My knees breaking down, I’m not gonna sit here, you know, I got everything I wanted.”

With three Super Bowl rings, it made Edelman’s decision easier — even if he’ll probably still hear from Brady for as long as the Hall of Fame quarterback plays in Tampa.
