It’s extremely rare for a non-quarterback to win the Heisman Trophy, but 247Sports’ Josh Pate believes Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy has a shot.
Pate reminded listeners that Alabama wide receiver DeVonta Smith took home the Heisman Trophy when current Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian was the offensive coordinator for the Crimson Tide.
Worthy had a down year in 2022, but Pate primarily chalks that up to a hand injury limiting his play. He fully expects Worthy to return to his freshman All-American form this upcoming season.
It will be interesting to see how Texas will spread targets between Worthy, AD Mitchell, Jordan Whittington, Isaiah Neyor and Ja’Tavion Sanders in 2023.
