Josh Heupel provides update on Cooper Mays ahead of South Carolina game

Josh Heupel provides update on offensive lineman Cooper Mays ahead of the South Carolina game.

Third-year Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel provided an update on offensive lineman Cooper Mays on Thursday ahead of playing South Carolina.

Mays has not played for the Vols in 2023 due to an undisclosed minor procedure during fall training camp.

“Practiced really well,” Heupel said of Mays. “Like those others guys that I talked about, we will ensure that through tomorrow, and then game day, that they are ready to go compete at the level that you need to in this one. South Carolina is big, strong, physical, explosive up front. Hopefully we will have him locked and loaded and ready to roll.”

Other Tennessee players Heupel discussed on Thursday were wide receiver Ramel Keyton and running back Jaylen Wright.

“Really, all the guys that you didn’t see at the end of last week have had a really good week,” Heupel said. “As always, game-time decisions, but feel really good about all of them.”
