Josh Heupel details balancing game preparation, 11-on-11 work

Josh Heupel details balancing game preparation, 11-on-11 work ahead of the Vols’ first game.

Tennessee will kick off its 2021 season in 10 days.

The Vols and first-year head coach Josh Heupel are slated to host Bowling Green on Sept. 2 at Neyland Stadium.

Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. EDT. SEC Network will televise the season opening matchup.

Heupel met with media on Monday and discussed Tennessee balancing game preparation for Bowling Green, while continuing to identify areas on his team during 11-on-11 work.

“We will balance it, and we do that during the course of the season, too,” Heupel said. “I think good teams continue to get better as you go through the season, and a part of that is still continuing to work on your fundamentals, your technique by position, but then get some good-on-good work, as well during the course of the season.

“I think it’s imperative that you do that inside your program. This week will be a combination of both those things. We’ll start with a little bit of introductory into our game plans on offense and defense, but there’s still going to be a lot of good-on-good work this week.”
