The newest WR for the Kansas City Chiefs has been assigned a jersey number with his new team.
The Chiefs officially signed WR Josh Gordon to the practice squad today after he passed his physical. He’ll occupy one of the veteran spots on the practice squad until he has been brought up to speed.
As Gordon turns in a new chapter of his career, he’s set to wear a new jersey number. He wore the No. 12 jersey in college at Baylor and with the Cleveland Browns, but that number is currently occupied by Chiefs practice squad WR Gehrig Dieter. With the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks, Gordon wore the No. 10 jersey. That number is, of course, occupied by Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill.
According to the team’s official roster on Chiefs.com and their roster on the Chiefs’ media portal, Gordon will be wearing No. 19 in Kansas City.
The last player to wear No. 19 on the 53-man roster in Kansas City was WR Marcus Kemp, who currently wears No. 85. The No. 19 was famously worn by former Chiefs QB Joe Montana during the mid-90s. It was also recently worn by former Chiefs WR Jeremy Maclin.
It’s possible that this number is merely a placeholder, but they typically leave it blank if a player hasn’t been assigned a number. The fact that it’s on both the team website and the media roster suggests it’s here to say. We’ll get the official word when the team is back on the practice field tomorrow.
