Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is a bit of a roller coaster ride at times. In his second professional season, he won games. But like his first, there were some ups and downs to get there.
In the final game we saw Allen suit up for the Bills, said roller coaster almost went off the tracks. In an absurd moment, Allen was being tackled in the fourth quarter.
That alone says it all. Aside from scoring points, with time dwindling down in the final frame, possession is the most important thing. So when Allen attempted a lateral to tight end Dawson Knox on one play, it was insane.
Allen admitted that much on Monday.
“It wasn’t my finest moment,” Allen said on Pardon My Take, a Barstool Sports podcast. “But I kind of just saw him. Hell, if I would have given him a good pitch, Dawson might have been able to go [all the way to the end zone].”
In a more lighthearted aspect of his explanation, Allen said he was trying to be another former Bill on the play.
“I tried to channel my inner Reggie Bush there,” Allen said, referring to the 2006 Rose Bowl, the then-USC running back tried a similar move, which backfired.
The QB also joked that maybe it’ll happen again, but probably not based on his tone.
“I can’t promise that I’m not gonna do it but I don’t plan on it. Like it could happen… Was just trying to make a play,” Allen said.
Still, no harm, no foul, though. Knox, in a head’s up play, knocked the ball out of bounds, so the Bills retained possession:

In fact, the Bills ended up tying the game on that drive to send things to overtime. Perhaps because of that, in a final thought, Allen said Sean McDermott nor anyone on the Bills coaching staff ever exactly scolded him for the lateral since the drive turned out well and everyone in the Bills locker room was pretty crushed by the loss when things were all said and done.
