Following the Bills’ 22-19 Wild Card loss to the Houston Texans, Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen said the expected. It stung and he’s hoping to learn from it in the future.
Allen, 22, is very young and will be given time to do so. On Sunday during the Bills’ locker cleanout day, Allen said he’s hoping he’ll get to continuing his learning with his offensive coordinator, Brian Daboll.
Daboll, 44, will reportedly be interviewed for the Cleveland Browns vacant head coaching job. That was first supposed to take place on Sunday, but will likely be pushed back to early next week. While not wishing anything bad on his coach, Allen openly said he’s hoping Daboll sticks around Buffalo for another season.
“I love Daboll, he’s been one of my favorite coaches I’ve ever had in my football career,” Allen said. “Whether he gets an opportunity to [become a head coach], personally I would hate to see it, but at the same time, for him to get an opportunity like that would be awesome.”
“I understand this is a business, I’d be the first one to tell him to do it if he had that opportunity. But the relationship we have is special,” Allen added. “Personally I hope he’s back next year.”
As of now, Allen and observers of the Bills in favor of keeping Daboll don’t have much reason to feat. Bringing in a new head coach is a huge decision for any NFL team. There are numerous rounds of interviews in the process and Daboll has yet to have his first one. In addition, other reported interview candidates, such as Ravens offensive coordinator Greg Roman and Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, seem to be a bit higher on the popularity scale as of now.
Panic level is low, for now.
