The Buffalo Bills have lost two games in a row while in the midst of the push toward the playoffs.
It’s unexpected, not ideal, and even safety Jordan Poyer couldn’t recall the last time back-to-back losses happened for his team. But it has, and the Bills (7-6) know that losing has to quickly become a thing of the past starting with the Carolina Panthers this week.
“Whatever it takes to win, it’s what we’ll do,” offensive lineman Dion Dawkins said via video conference. “If we have to pass 100 times in a game, we’ll do it.”
Saying and doing are two separate things, though. The better word to use might be details.
That’s what Poyer and quarterback Josh Allen said is going to have to make the difference against Carolina. The QB thinks his team isn’t even far off had those details been a bit better.
“I think it’s execution and situational football,” Allen said via video conference. “Red zone, for example, we’ve got to be better in that aspect, and again, there’s a lot of shoulda, coulda, wouldas in our season this year, and a couple plays go our way instead of the other way, talk might be a little different.”
“We’ve got to utilize everything we’ve learned from in the past and use it going forward,” Allen added.
For Poyer, he referenced how heads can’t be hung in the Bills locker room right now despite the results. The defender also mentioned how the way his team turned it around last week in the second half is another things they can hang their hat on.
A 21-point rally against the defending champions? Being proud of that is certainly allowed… especially if it can be carried over into a team’s next game like Poyer reference.
“Just continue to work, that’s really all you can do,” Poyer said.
“We got the right guys in the locker room to continue to work. And like I said, we got to use that momentum from last weekend. I understand we are a talented football team and need to really come out and show that,” Poyer added. “That’s really it. Hone down on the details and come ready to play.”
