Jordan Sweeney is proving to be a reliable bat for Rutgers baseball

Jordan Sweeney is helping Rutgers baseball this year.

Over the last few years, Jordan Sweeney has become a familiar name to Rutgers fans. The New Jersey native has appeared in 117 games for the Scarlet Knights and provided them with a steady bat. During his junior year, Sweeney has again been one of Rutger’s most consistent bats and made the most of his playing time.

Through 31 games this season, the Egg Harbor Township High School product is hitting .295 with 28 runs batted in. Sweeney has added 12 extra-base hits to his resume and only grounded into three double plays. Of late, he has been an on-base machine.

In Sweeney’s last five games, he has three multi-hit games. That is his best five-game stretch of the season, and as a result, he has been hard to keep out of the lineup. He only needs six more hits to tie his career high with plenty of games left in the regular season.

Additionally, the talented junior has been just as good defensively. Sweeney has only committed one error this season and added recorded 16 assists. If his Rutgers career were to end today, he would finish with 599 putouts and a .992 fielding percentage.

Sweeney will be a player to watch as the Scarlet Knights look to put together an extended winning streak. Entering play on Tuesday, they are 16-15 through 31 games and 2-4 in conference play. However, during what has been a rollercoaster season so far, Sweeney has been one of the bright spots as he is on pace for a career year.
