John Elway says Broncos are unlikely to trade up in NFL Draft but ‘never say never’

The Broncos are “unlikely” to trade up in the first round, general manager John Elway told ESPN.

There have been plenty of rumors in recent days that the Denver Broncos will trade up in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft on Thursday evening, perhaps for a wide receiver.

Speaking to ESPN’s Ed Werder on Thursday afternoon, Broncos general manager John Elway indicated that the team is unlikely to trade up — but he didn’t completely rule out the possibility.

“We feel comfortable at 15 that we’re going to get a good football player so, instead of reaching for one, most likely we stay put,” Elway said. “But never say never.”

Denver likely plans to stay at 15 unless a top prospect surprising falls lower than they expected (perhaps Isaiah Simmons, for example). With several teams expected to draft quarterbacks and a potential run on offensive tackles, there should several good prospects available for the Broncos.

In addition to the 15th overall pick, Denver will have nine other picks in the draft, including a second-round selection and three third-round picks.
