Joey Halzle previews spring football as Vols’ offensive coordinator

Joey Halzle previews spring football as Tennessee’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

Joey Halzle was promoted as Tennessee’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Jan. 5.

He replaces Alex Golesh as offensive coordinator. Golesh served as the Vols’ offensive coordinator and tight ends coach from 2021-22. Golesh was hired as USF’s head coach on Dec. 4.

Halzle served as the Vols’ quarterbacks coach from 2021-22 under head coach Josh Heupel.

“Joey has been instrumental in our record-setting offensive success over the past two seasons, and he’s built great trust within our team,” Heupel said when promoting Halzle. “I have known Joey for over 15 years, and his track record of player development has impacted every place he has been. He has complete knowledge of our aggressive offensive identity and principles. Having played and coached at this level, he understands how to connect with players and will continue to make a significant impact in recruiting. This will be a seamless transition for him as we strive to build a championship program that Vol Nation is proud of.”

Halzle met with media Wednesday and previewed spring football. A transcript provided by the University of Tennessee of Halzle’s media availability is listed below.
