When it comes to marquee games at the start of the season, the SEC is usually coming away as a winner. In the words of Lee Corso, “Not so fast, my friend.”

2023 has been a rough year so far for the SEC as they have found themselves on the wrong end of the scoreboard so far.

It seems as though the Pac-12 has taken those reigns this year as they are having a phenomenal year so far. This is funny, considering this is the last year that the conference will exist. Joel Klatt discussed the SEC’s rough start on his show this week.

“It feels like opposite year, to a certain degree, in college football. The SEC is struggling in the non-conference, the Pac-12 is thriving. A few years ago, we never thought we would say that ever in a million years,” said Klatt. “You just look at these results right now? It’s hard to wrap our minds around what’s going on.”

“The SEC is 3-6 versus other Power Five teams this season. That’s the worst among the Power Five conferences,” Klatt pointed out.

“The depth of the conference is certainly not what it has been in the past,” said Klatt. “The reason I know that is because they always won the big non-conference games – always.”

Maybe the SEC is just a second-half conference this year. The conference doesn’t look as stacked this year as it has in the past, though.
