Joe Burrow talks injury, sticking around Bengals to help teammates

Joe Burrow speaks on the injury and what happens next.

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow used the phrase “not great” to discuss his season-ending injury on Friday moments after the team and head coach Zac Taylor made the announcement.

Burrow told onlookers that his goal now is to remain around the team and play his role: “Be present. Bring energy. Talk to guys. Try to boost morale in any way that I can.”

Burrow also said that everything he’s seen to this point says he will need surgery, which is what Taylor had previously alluded to while saying there isn’t usually a long-term problem for quarterbacks who get the operation.

As expected, Burrow said what the film seemed to back up at the time — he suffered the injury while being taken to the ground by Jadeveon Clowney, then “felt a pop” on the touchdown pass to Joe Mixon.

And to cap it all off, Burrow shot down any narratives about the sleeve he had on in the deleted videos, saying it was merely a compression sleeve he sometimes wears on flights to keep swelling in check at high altitudes.
