As expected, Joe Burrow kept it reserved when asked about the continued rivalry between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Said rivalry has sparked up during the dead part of the offseason in recent weeks, with Ja’Marr Chase getting a response from Patrick Mahomes, followed by Travis Kelce inserting himself into the chatter.
Asked about the comments from Mahomes and Kelce by Complex’s Kameron Hay, Burrow kept it short and sweet: “The best thing about that is it’s all settled on the field. So we’ll see them in December.”
Instead, Burrow elected to spend his energy during the interview elsewhere, such as how he views the team’s outlook going into the 2023 season:
“Keep doing exactly what we’re doing. I think we’ve put a great plan together the last couple of years, now we just have to finish it off. We have essentially the same team with, you know, a couple lost pieces, but we also added a couple pieces that I think will help us. So just continuing to grind every day and get better and better. It sounds cliché, but that’s really how you do it. You can’t focus too much on the future. You just have to focus on perfecting every day and perfecting your craft every day. Whatever you’re working on, just give it your all and you know, the rest usually takes care of itself.”
Burrow was going to make waves pretty much no matter what he said here.
What matters, though, unfolds on the field. The Bengals have a 3-1 record over the Chiefs over the last two years, but have split the last two AFC title games, with Kansas City winning it all last season.
Understandably, that’s where Burrow’s focus resides no matter who says what in the orbit of these two teams.
