J.J. Watt working for potential return before end of season

The Cardinals defensive end could return as early as the end of the regular season at the short end of his potential recovery time.

Arizona Cardinals defensive end J.J. Watt is currently on injured reserve. He is working to potentially return and play this season despite having shoulder surgery.

According to Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro, he is already working out in the weight room.

He had surgery the week leading up to the Cardinals’ game in Week 9 against the San Francisco 49ers, when he was placed on injured reserve.

Gambadoro says that recovery time is between two and three months.

If he can return at the two-month mark, he could play before the end of the regular season. The Cardinals’ Week 18 game is January 9. That would be just beyond the two-month mark. He would then be able to rejoin the team for a potential playoff run.

Watt suffered the injury in Week 7 against the Houston Texans. He reportedly tore his rotator cuff, labrum and biceps.
