J.J. Watt lands on PUP with hamstring issue

Watt tweaked his hamstring during his conditioning test Tuesday and now will miss time in training camp.

The Arizona Cardinals did not make any announcement, but a roster move with a significant player on the roster showed up on the NFL transaction list Wednesday afternoon. Defensive lineman J.J Watt was placed on the physically unable to perform list.

Watt told reporters Wednesday he tweaked his hamstring Tuesday during the run test. He sat out Wednesday’s practice and was expected to miss Thursday’s as well.

Landing on PUP is a procedural move. He can come back as soon as he is healthy, but because it happened before the Cardinals’ first practice, using PUP is a safeguard for the roster if there happens to be a major setback and he has to miss regular season time.

It is mildly concerning bexause Watt has been hampered by injuries over the last few seasons and hurting his hamstring on the first day seems ominous.

Ideally, this is minor and by next week he is on the practice field.
