JJ Redick, Duke’s all-time leading scorer, is reportedly one of the frontrunners for the open position as the Los Angeles Lakers head coach.
According to a Tuesday report from The Athletic’s Jovan Buha, Redick is one of three leading candidates alongside New Orleans Pelicans associate head coach James Borrego and Boston Celtics assistant Sam Cassell.
In a YouTube video Buha published on Tuesday, the beat reporter said Redick should be the favorite to land the job.
“If I had to pick the candidate most likely to get the head coaching position, I would pick Redick,” Buha said.
The Lakers, led by stars LeBron James and Anthony Davis, won an NBA title in 2020. However, they’ve fired two coaches since then, parting ways with Darvin Ham last week.
Redick, a 15-year NBA veteran, transitioned into a career in sports media as an ESPN personality after his retirement. He recently started a podcast with James called ‘Mind the Game’ about schematics and strategy in the sport.
