J.J. Redick on Heat rookie Tyler Herro: ‘His swag is crazy’

The Pelicans sharpshooter has been impressed by what he’s seen with Herro as he said to Jimmy Butler on his podcast.

Miami Heat rookie Tyler Herro has had a productive rookie campaign to this point of the season and his play and style recently earned some praise from sharpshooter J.J. Redick.

Jimmy Butler joined Redick on the latest episode of the J.J. Redick Podcast to discuss a variety of topics, including his first season playing with the Heat. Redick started off the conversation with his former Philadelphia 76ers teammate by asking him who he has taken under his wing and Butler quickly mentioned Herro.

Butler has often praised Herro this season as the two have developed a strong relationship. The five-time NBA All-Star infamously said earlier this season that Herro trash-talked him during practice, something he liked to see. Butler compared Herro to Redick in one sense and then detailed what he likes about Herro.

Butler: He is a lot like you in the sense of you’re like a black, white guy to me — like how you go about [stuff]. … Tyler is the exact same way: He can’t swim, which is stereotypical. I was like, ‘Man,’ when I first met him. Even his mannerisms, the way he talks.

Redick: From the outside, I don’t know Tyler, I have never met him. I have never even spoken to him but his swag is crazy. It’s different. His fits are crazy, man.

Butler: That’s why I like him; he doesn’t care. He is him no matter if he is in Miami, Milwaukee. Anywhere in the world, Tyler is going to be Tyler. I knew that he was going to be good because, the way that he works, he works as though he has been in the league for so many years. With that being said, Coach Pat and Coach Spo were nailing that in his head. We don’t care if you’re the 13th pick, we don’t care that you were one and done. You’re going to work and earn everything here and he has done that.

Herro has often played with swag and confidence that is noticeable on the court. Butler even commented on his swag earlier this season as he was fascinated by it.

Herro has missed some time recently due to an ankle injury but he appears to be on track to return to the lineup soon, possibly as early as Wednesday night as the Heat host the Charlotte Hornets.
