Jimbo Fisher explains why he was on the field for Eugene Asante’s scoop and score

Fisher provided an answer for those wondering “why was he out there?”

There were very minimal “high moments” for Auburn during its 27-10 loss to Texas A&M last Saturday, but there was one play during the game that has the entire college football world talking.

During the 4th quarter of the game played at Kyle Field, Auburn linebacker [autotag]Eugene Asante[/autotag] scooped up and fumble and returned it for a Tiger touchdown. The play itself was exciting, but what occurred during the play is what caught the attention of college football fans worldwide.

Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher was on the field of play while Asante was en route to the end zone. Asante noticeably jetted passed Fisher, as picked up by ESPN cameras.

The occurrence sparked laughter. But, a question begs to be asked… “why was he out there?” Fisher explained himself Monday.

During his weekly media press conference, Fisher was asked what was going through his head during the play. To which he replied, “Nothing.”

“How in the hell’d he get the ball? Because I didn’t see us fumble,” Fisher said of the play. “I didn’t see us fumble. I mean seriously, I thought he was tackled. I didn’t see it. And I was trying to get Max (Johnson)’s attention on something, and it was kind of like, ‘Well.’”

He believed the play was over. However, he went on to say that he “shouldn’t have been out there” on the field.

Here’s a look at Fisher’s role in Asante’s score last Saturday.
