Jets waive safety Trey Dean

First minor surprise of the Jets’ cuts

The Jets waived safety Trey Dean on Monday as reported by uStadium. The Jets hope to get Dean back on the practice squad but he will have to clear waivers first.

Dean was the second-leading tackler during the preseason with 24. Zaire Barnes led the team with 25 in August. Dean showed potential and did all he could to make the 53-man roster but would have ultimately been the 5th safety behind Jordan Whitehead, Tony Adams, Adrian Amos and Ashtyn Davis. The Jets also have Jarrick Bernard-Converse, who will likely start the season on the reserve/PUP list.

Perhaps the Jets could have a better chance at getting Dean back by waiving him Monday instead of Tuesday. We’ll find out soon enough.
