Jets stay winless, still lead chase for No. 1 pick in 2021 NFL draft

The New York Jets are still looking for their first win of the 2020 season, which means they’re still in line to get next year’s top pick

For most of Monday night, it looks like the New York Jets might just get their first win of the 2020 season.

Instead, a last-second field goal gave the New England Patriots a 30-27 victory, and kept the Jets out of the win column for yet another week, dropping them to 0-9 on the year.

The silver lining for Jets fans? That means their team still leads the chase for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft, and the chance to select Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

When healthy, Sam Darnold has been the least of the Jets’ problems this season, but considering the kind of rare prospect Lawrence is, it seems unlikely that they would pass up the chance to draft him if they end up with next year’s top pick.

If the Jets do want to stick with Darnold, they could always auction the pick off to the highest bidder. Considering how many teams would love to land Lawrence, they could easily command a king’s ransom for that pick.

In the meantime, Jets fans will simply have to keep their eyes focused on the offseason and the future, while their team continues to disappoint in the present.
