If the powers that be for the New York Jets didn’t call down to the sideline and order a tank in the final moments of Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders, it sure looked like it.
The Jets were dangerously close to their first win of the 2020 season, leading the Raiders by four with just seconds remaining. Despite the Raiders needing a long touchdown to win the game, the Jets decided it would be a good idea to leave one of their defensive backs 1-on-1 with rookie speedster Henry Ruggs III on the outside.
That went about like you would expect.
Raiders quarterback Derek Carr heaved a perfect bomb down the sideline to Ruggs, who burned his defender with a double-move route and walked into the end zone with the game-winning touchdown.
Especially considering that around this same time, the Jacksonville Jaguars were forcing overtime against the Minnesota Vikings, it sure looks like the Jets were making sure they maintained their narrow lead over the Jags in the race to land the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft.
