There was a lot of talk about Le’Veon Bell getting revenge on the Jets this week, but he wasn’t much of a factor in Kansas City’s 35-9 win over the running back’s former team.
Bell had 38 total yards in his first game against the team that cut him just a few weeks ago. He could not get anything going in the running game, as he had six carries for seven yards for an average of 1.2 yards per carry. In the passing game, Bell had three receptions for 31 yards, including an 18-yard catch.
Bell still doesn’t look like the player he once was with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Though he’s only spent two games in the Chiefs’ system, he doesn’t have that same explosiveness anymore. In four games this season, Bell has 95 total rushing yards on 31 rushing attempts. That’s an average of 3.0 yards per carry.
The Jets thought Bell still had some juice left in his legs when they signed him to a four-year deal worth $52.5 million. However, his tenure as a Jet didn’t go well from the start. Adam Gase reportedly didn’t want to pay Bell and then failed to make use of him in the offense. In 17 games with the Jets, Bell had 828 rushing yards, 500 receiving yards, and four total touchdowns.
The Jets released Bell after their Week 5 loss to the Cardinals. Bell liked some tweets about not being a factor in the passing game and about being traded, much to the dismay of Gase. He was released shortly after that and picked up by the Chiefs.
Bell got his chance to stick it to the Jets for releasing him, but he failed to prove them wrong on Sunday. He got the last laugh though, as his Chiefs picked up a win while the Jets moved to 0-8.
