The New York Jets have signed all nine of their 2020 draft picks.
The team announced that third-round pick Ashtyn Davis has agreed to the terms of his rookie contract. It’s a four-year deal worth $4.9 million. His 2020 salary cap charge is $894,000. Davis was the last Jets draft pick to sign.
New York picked Davis with the 68th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft out of the University of California. After originally going to college for track and field, Davis joined the California football team in 2015. He still ran track and field during the spring season, though.
Davis started out as a cornerback in his first two seasons but switched to safety by his junior year. He racked up 166 total tackles, seven interceptions, 12 pass defenses, three fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles between both positions. The speedy Davis was also used on special teams as a kick returner. Davis averaged 22.9 yards per kickoff return and totaled 1,604 return yards.
The Jets love Davis’ versatility and view him as a Swiss Army knife on defense. He can play anywhere in the secondary and can fly all over the field with his speed. New York can use him as kick returner, punt returner, or both as part of Brant Boyer’s special teams unit.
