The NFL suspended Jets cornerback Brandon Echols for one game, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. The league did not give a specific reason for the suspension. Echols will miss New York’s season opener on Monday, September 11 against the Buffalo Bills.

Echols recently entered a diversionary program to avoid assault by auto charges from a high-speed crash from 2022 that partially paralyzed another person. As Pro Football Talk’s Josh Alper writes, it’s possible the suspension is related to that.
Echols started 14 games at cornerback as a rookie. He was more of a special teams player in 2022 while adding depth behind Sauce Gardner and D.J. Reed.
