Jets adding Nick Bawden to practice squad

The Jets are bringing back fullback Nick Bawden on the practice squad after he was waived to make room for Aaron Rodgers.

The Jets are adding fullback Nick Bawden to the practice squad after he was waived Wednesday to make room for quarterback Aaron Rodgers on the 53-man roster.

This was the likely move after Bawden was waived. He is also dealing with a knee injury, so it was unlikely Bawden would be claimed on waivers. Plus, Bawden is not losing any money by being waived. As a vested veteran, being on the roster Week 1 guaranteed his salary for the season, so he will still make the same amount while on the practice squad. It’s also extremely likely Bawden will be elevated from the practice squad for the season’s three games.

A player can be elevated from the practice squad three times. Bawden has not been elevated yet as he spent the entire season on the active roster. With three games left, Bawden can be elevated for each of the remaining games.

So in the end, the Jets did have the roster flexibility head coach Robert Saleh referenced.
