As the New York Giants trimmed their roster down to 53 men, a few jersey numbers became available in the process.
On Wednesday, five Giants changed their numbers including some big names.
- Jalin Hyatt, No. 13
- Isaiah Simmons, No. 19
- Deonte Banks, No. 25
- Gervarrius Owens, No. 39
- Boogie Basham, No. 45
Hyatt switching from 84 to 13 is an interesting decision given the connection the number has to former Giant Odell Beckham Jr.
Beckham delivered a message to Hyatt shortly after the Giants drafted him, jokingly asking him not to break any of his rookie records. However, Hyatt is looking to start his “own legacy with it.”

Hyatt wore No. 11 at the University of Tennessee.
Meanwhile, Isaiah Simmons was traded to the Giants just one week ago and when he joined the team, open numbers were scarce. Simmons changed from 46 over to 19, which was last worn by Kenny Golladay.
The acquisition of Simmons is something fans are excited about given his fit in Wink Martindale’s defense. Hopefully, Simmons can help fans forget about associating Golladay with number 19 in a hurry.
Rookie Deontae Banks wore 36 all preseason and is now switching over to 25. Banks primarily wore No. 3 in college at Maryland.
2023 seventh-round pick Gervarrius Owens has claimed number 39 after sporting with 31 during the preseason. The change was expected given that Matt Breida also wears number 31.
Boogie Basham, who was acquired on Tuesday, will wear 45 after wearing No. 55 with his former team, the Buffalo Bills.
And this is why you wait to purchase jerseys.
