Jerry Jones responds to criticism from Cowboys legend Troy Aikman

Jerry Jones says Troy Aikman would run the Cowboys the same way if he owned the team.

Cowboys legend Troy Aikman has been critical of his former team throughout the year as they’ve struggled to a disappointing 7-7 record, and while fans and analysts have been calling for the Jason Garrett era to end all season long, Aikman believes the team may have a bigger problem.

In an interview with 105.3 The Fan in Dallas, Aikman discussed the possibility of becoming an NFL GM, and said that as long as “stubborn” Cowboys owner serves as the team’s general manager, the Cowboys are “going to have to problems.”

Via the Dallas Morning News:

“I believe that it’s unlikely that Jerry will ever bring somebody in that can help this football team in that regard just because he’s been real stubborn and steadfast, in that he’s the one in charge. I think in a lot of ways until that changes, this team’s going to have some problems. Would he ever ask me to come be a part of it? I think that’d be a real leap of faith. I don’t envision that happening, and I don’t envision it happening at any point, quite honestly, no matter who’s in charge out there.”

Jones responded to Aikman’s criticism in his own weekly radio interview, and said that if his former quarterback owned the Cowboys, he’d be running the team the same way that Jones does.

Via 105.3 The Fan:

“Everything that he had when he came to the Cowboys and he got more after he got here. I agree. But everything he was up until then — he emptied the bucket that day just like I did to become a Cowboy. Now, I would wager that if he did that to buy the team, he would do it exactly like how I do it. I would wager that because you just want to ultimately, with that much on the line and that much at stake, you want to break any ties or make the calls.”
