Jerry Hughes has surgery for second time this offseason

Buffalo Bills DE Jerry Hughes has groin surgery over offseason.

Buffalo Bills defensive end Jerry Hughes continued his offseason tour of surgeries on Thursday.

According to Hughes’ wife, Meghan, on Instagram, Hughes was in Philadelphia having surgery on his groin. Hughes already had surgery on his wrist earlier this offseason.

Here’s that Instagram post via Bills Wire’s Bradley Gelber:

The hashtag, “offseason tune up,” perhaps indicates that the injury wasn’t on the very serious side. But this injury is a bit different than his wrist one.

That first surgery sparked a small controversy for the Bills, because Hughes was never listed with a wrist injury during the season. The NFL looked into the possibility that the Bills violated the league’s policy on reporting injuries during the season. Buffalo was given a pass and did not get in trouble. For Hughes’ groin, they shouldn’t be in trouble at all. In Week 12, he was listed briefly with a groin injury.

Other Bills players that have had offseason surgery over the past few weeks as well include fefensive tackle Ed Oliver (core muscle), guard Jon Feliciano (rotator cuff) and right tackle Cody Ford (shoulder).

Hughes was held to only 4.5 sacks this past season. But having said that, Hughes, the longest-tenured member of the Bills, never missed a game last season, or his entire Bills career, for that matter. He’s been a member of the team since 2013.
