Jaylin Simpson is taking his talents to the NFL.

After spending five seasons on the Plains, Auburn safety [autotag]Jaylin Simpson[/autotag] is officially headed to the NFL draft, declaring for the 2024 draft Wednesday on social media.

“A huge shoutout to the entire Auburn family for the relentless support from day one,” he wrote. “The fans, you’ve been the heartbeat of every game, creating an atmosphere that’s nothing short of electric. Your passion has fueled me, and I carry that Tiger spirit with pride.

I want to express my deepest gratitude to the coaching staff who’ve played a pivotal role in shaping not just my skills on the field, but also the person I’ve become off it. Coach (Gus) Malzhan, Coach (Kevin) Steele, Coach (Zac) Etheridge, and Coach (Hugh) Freeze – your guidance, wisdom, and belief in me have been the driving force behind my success.

Auburn has been more than a university to me, it’s been a home. The friendships, the lessons, the victories, and even the challenges have all contributed to an experience that I will forever cherish.”

The decision was expected after he accepted his invitation to the 2024 Reese’s Senior Bowl but it is now official. He is coming off his best season as a Tiger after transitioning to safety, making 36 tackles, breaking up four passes and recording four interceptions. His great play earned him a 78.3 grade from Pro Football Focus, the fourth highest on the team.

He spent time at both corner and safety during his Auburn career and finished with 116 tackles, seven interceptions, and 21 defended passes in 48 games.
