Jayden Daniels surges in CBS Sports quarterback power rankings this week

LSU has two losses on the year, but it’s not because of Jayden Daniels, who is having a prolific campaign.

Perhaps it’s been largely overlooked due to LSU’s defensive struggles, which have led to two losses, but the Tigers’ offense is as good as any unit in the country.

A major reason for that is the play of quarterback [autotag]Jayden Daniels[/autotag], who has really elevated his downfield passing in his second season on the Bayou. He’s having a Heisman-caliber campaign, though he isn’t getting that kind of love at the moment, and he’s surging in CBS Sports’ quarterback power rankings entering Week 8.

Daniels now ranks No. 2 on the list, an improvement of three spots from last week, and he sits behind only the early Heisman frontrunner in Washington’s Michael Penix Jr.

It’s a shame that the two LSU games most casual fans have seen this year were its two losses because Jayden Daniels is having a phenomenal season. He threw for another 325 yards and three touchdowns in a win over Auburn, and is now up to 2,294 yards passing and 515 yards rushing this season. If Daniels keeps performing like this and the No. 19 Tigers pull off an upset over No. 11 Alabama in two weeks, you’ll hear his name come up a lot more often in the Heisman conversation

Daniels has shown no signs of slowing down, and if he continues at this pace, it seems more likely than not that he will at least receive an invite to the Heisman ceremony in New York.
