Even coming in as a Power Five transfer with three years of starting experience — much of it good — no one quite expected the season we’ve gotten from LSU quarterback [autotag]Jayden Daniels[/autotag].
The transfer from Arizona State has almost 2,000 passing yards on the year with 14 touchdowns to just one interception and is completing 69.8% of his passes. He’s also LSU’s leading rusher on the season with 619 yards on 131 carries with a career-best 10 touchdowns.
He’s been a major part of the run LSU is on, which has featured three straight wins and back-to-back against teams ranked in the top 10. He now ranks in the top 10 of CBS Sports’ college football quarterback rankings, coming in at No. 8.
Here’s the breakdown on Daniels, per Tom Fornelli.
He’s not the best pure passer on this list by any means, and if you look at his raw numbers against Alabama, they weren’t impressive. He finished with only 182 yards and two touchdowns, averaging 5.7 yards per attempt. However, he also rushed 95 yards and the game-winning touchdown in overtime. The week before against Ole Miss, he rushed for 121 yards and three touchdowns. It took a little while to get comfortable in the offense, but Daniels has looked pretty dang comfortable for about a month now. (NR)
The Tigers remain in the College Football Playoff discussion and are the favorite to win the SEC West. That’s largely thanks to Daniels, who continues to improve and has been one of the best quarterbacks in the SEC over the last month.
