Jay Harbaugh breaks down Michigan’s RB room at great length

A thorough breakdown of what each of the Wolverines RB are best at, where they are in their development and how they’ll be utilized in 2020.

Blake Corum

Beyond all that, Michigan has someone on campus now that has the look of a special player in true freshman Blake Corum.

Corum is an early-enrollee, and already has a few practices under his belt, thanks to an NCAA loophole that allowed him to join the team and workout in December.

Just because this is his first year and there’s four players potentially ahead of him in the pecking order, don’t expect him to necessarily warm the bench for his freshman campaign.

As Harbaugh says, given that he’s already on campus, has had three practices and has the full upcoming spring ball, summer conditioning and fall camp to get his legs underneath him, he could become a factor sooner than later.

“The expectations are high,” Harbaugh said. “As an early-enrollee, you really find your way in the winter, you workout, you learn the playbook, you go through spring ball. But you get to a certain point in there where you’re not really a freshman anymore, just because the fact that you’ve been around and you’ve been exposed to everything. The cool thing about Blake is that he totally embraces that, he wants that. And he’s obsessed with football, man. Just like other guys on our team, which is a pretty special thing, we’ve got guys that want to be in here on Saturdays, they want to watch extra film, they text you questions at one in the morning about certain plays and stuff. That’s the great thing that we have going in our room as well as other positions. It’s just that the culture right now is really strong in terms of football being important to these guys. They take care of their business in school, they’re obsessed with us winning and being great players.

“Blake definitely adds to that, bolsters that, and he’ll bring great competition to the group in terms of what he can do, skillset-wise.”
