There was a quarterback change for the Detroit Lions in Wednesday’s practice session. Starter Jared Goff sat out the first session of Week 11 preparation with the oblique muscle injury that he suffered in the Week 10 tie with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
“Look, we’re just taking it day-to-day. He’s going to sit today and we’ll reassess tomorrow, see how he’s feeling,” Campbell said of Goff’s injury. “There’s pain management to it, and some of it will be if we can get it to calm down a little bit where it’s more manageable, where he feels like he can step into the throw and really put a lot of zing on it.”
Tim Boyle took the majority of the first-team offensive reps. Boyle is technically still on the team’s injured reserve list, though he was designated for return last week. He suffered a thumb injury during the preseason.
If Goff’s injury continues to keep him sidelined, all signs point to Boyle as the replacement.
David Blough has been Goff’s backup throughout the season. When Goff was struggling with the oblique in Pittsburgh, Blough remained on the sidelines. The team also has Steven Montez on the practice squad, and felt strong enough about Montez to include him on the protected practice squad list.
