Jared Goff knew this week would bring a lot of pointed questions. The Lions quarterback is heading back to Los Angeles to face his old team, the Rams, and the coach who decided he wasn’t good enough in Sean McVay. And through six weeks, McVay’s stance has been validated. The Rams are 5-1 with Matthew Stafford playing well, while Goff is no small part of the reason the Lions are the NFL’s last remaining winless team.
Goff didn’t really bite hard on any of the questions that appeared to try and get some bulletin board material. He took the high road in noting his excitement for playing in front of fans at SoFi Stadium, something he never experienced with the Rams.
On the subject of McVay acknowledging that he didn’t handle the breakup with Goff as well as he would have liked, Goff reciprocated the respect,
“I appreciate it. It takes a man to say something like that, so yeah, I appreciate it. It still happened the way it did, but I do appreciate him saying that and got all the respect in the world for them over there.”
Goff summed up the failed relationship with McVay thusly,
“Reliving all of that is, to me, irrelevant. I kind of just hit it there for a second. I don’t think it was nearly as bad as people may think.”
