James Harden: ‘We have some special talent in this locker room’

Joe Harris and Jeff Green were among those who impressed James Harden in his first game with the Brooklyn Nets.

Understandably, James Harden and Kevin Durant got all the attention after Saturday’s 122-115 win over the Orlando Magic. Harden had a 30-point triple-double and Durant scored 42 points on 16-for-26 shooting (5-for-8 from deep). But they were far from the only two Nets two contribute.

While Jeff Green’s presence was more noticeable on the defensive end, he chipped in 10 points on 4-for-6 shooting and grabbed four boards. Joe Harris scored 12 of his 17 points from long-range, knocking down 4 of his 9 3-point attempts. He also grabbed five rebounds to tie DeAndre Jordan and Bruce Brown (seven points) for second-most on the team after Harden (12).

Safe to say Brooklyn’s supporting cast made an impression on their new teammate.

“We have some special talent in this locker room — very versatile shooters, playmakers, defenders — a little bit of everything,” Harden said. “And that’s what you’re gonna need, especially when it comes [time for] the postseason. Obviously, we haven’t built as much chemistry as we would like. But that first game, it felt good to be out there on the court and just giving guys confidence, giving guys energy. That’s what it’s going to take throughout the course of the year.

“Once you build that up and guys believe in each other, then it’s pretty scary.”

The Nets get back to work on Monday when they play the Milwaukee Bucks.
