Entering Sunday’s final regular season game of the year, Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston needed just 92 yards to break the 5,000 yard barrier. In the second quarter of the Buccaneers’ game against the visiting Atlanta Falcons, he did just that.

Winston, the polarizing man-under-center for the Buccaneers joins some pretty good company as he became just the eighth quarterback to throw over 5,000 yards in a single season in NFL history. Dan Marino, Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Matthew Stafford, Peyton Manning Ben Roethlisberger and Patrick Mahomes have all surpassed the incredible mark, most recently Mahomes and Roethlisberger last season.

While Winston leads the league in passing yards and touchdowns, he also has that blemish that some fans cannot look past – leading the league in interceptions. The Bucs are in a truly divided situation when it comes to Winston and his expiring contract at the end of the season. Nonetheless, no matter which side you are on, what Winston has accomplished is remarkable. Congratulations on surpassing 5,000 yards, Jameis.
