Ja’Marr Chase says he’s been taking a more vocal role for the Cincinnati Bengals offense with starting quarterback Joe Burrow out.
Speaking with reporters before the Week 14 game against the Indianapolis Colts, Chase said that this has especially been the case in the huddle during games.
“I’ve been more talkative than I’ve ever been,” Chase said, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com. “I talked to Sam and Trey. Other than Burrow, those are the two leaders that I see. I’m asking those questions. I’m still young. I feel Iike I should where we are. Joe’s not here on the offensive side to speak up as vocal as he is. That’s not something I do. I just lead by example and my game. (But) in the huddle I was speaking up a little more.”
It’s a cool note from Chase, whose uptick in media since Burrow went down has been pretty notable already.
This sort of veteran-styled leadership from a guy who is 23 years old is likely part of the reason the team has stuck together and rallied around backup quarterback Jake Browning.
