Ja’Marr Chase goes No. 5 overall in Touchdown Wire’s ‘way too early’ 2021 mock draft

Chase comes off the board early in this mock draft.

The 2020 NFL Draft was an unforgettable one for the LSU Tigers.

The defending national champions saw 14 players go in the three-day draft, including five in the first round. The 14 selections in one draft tied the record set by Ohio State in 2014.

Naturally, it’s already time to start looking ahead to 2021.

Mark Schofield of Touchdown Wire recently did a “way too early” 2021 NFL mock draft and one LSU star landed inside the top five.

Junior wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase is projected to go No. 5 overall to the Miami Dolphins in Schofield’s mock.

Chase, who won the Biletnikoff Award last season, caught 84 passes for 1,780 yards and 20 touchdowns in 2019.

Here’s what Schofield had to say about Chase to the Dolphins.

That leads us to Chase, the early front-runner for WR1. He put up huge numbers last season for the LSU Tigers, and in the process set the single-season records for receiving yards and touchdowns in the SEC. No small feat from a sophomore. He is great at the catch point and has incredible change-of-direction skills both before and after the catch. Chase would be a great fit in the offense we can expect to see from Chan Gailey and the Dolphins in 2020.

Miami selected its quarterback of the future in 2020 in Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa.

The Dolphins lack a true No. 1 wide receiver, but have some talent at the position, specifically Preston Williams.

Chase is clearly the top wide receiver in college football entering the 2020 season but will be working with a new quarterback this fall in junior Myles Brennan.
