Jamal Adams appreciative of Joe Douglas’ ‘Jet for life’ comment

Jamal Adams was really appreciative of Joe Douglas saying he wants Adams to be a ‘Jet for life.’

Jamal Adams couldn’t be happier with Joe Douglas.

Adams appeared as a guest analyst during NFL Network’s coverage of the defensive back drills for the NFL Combine in Indianapolis on Sunday. There has been a lot of chatter at the combine about signing Adams to an extension and Douglas made it clear that he wants Adams to be a “Jet for life.” Adams was very appreciative of Douglas’ comments and said it should benefit him heading into next season.

“It feels good, man,” Adams said. “It gives me confidence going into next season, but, you know, we’ll see where everything ends.”

Fans should be encouraged to see these two seeing eye-to-eye after the fiasco prior to the trade deadline back in October. Douglas listened in on calls for Adams, much to the safety’s dismay. Adams then spent a few weeks avoiding the general manager.

As for Adams’ potential contract extension, there’s no rush to get it done. The Jets have him under team control for at least the next two seasons. But if the Jets want to avoid having any issues down the road, they’d be wise to accelerate the process to try to get it done as soon as possible.

The 24-year-old Adams put together another fabulous season for Gang Green, as he was named a first-team All-Pro member and made his second consecutive Pro Bowl. In 14 games, Adams had 61 total tackles, 6.5 sacks, seven pass breakups, one interception, one fumble recovery and two touchdowns.

With those numbers, Adams could potentially be the highest-paid player at his position once a deal gets done. If the two sides can come to a figure that satisfies both parties, then there’s no reason to believe Adams won’t be a “Jet for life.”
