Raheem Morris was hired by the Los Angeles Rams as their defensive coordinator to replace Brandon Staley this past offseason and he’s done a remarkable job despite the constant criticism he’s received from fans. With the Rams having success on defense, teams around the NFL are considering the idea of giving Morris another chance to be a head coach in the league.
Amid the news of Morris getting looks from teams with vacant head coaching jobs, Jalen Ramsey took to Twitter to vouch for Morris. Ramsey called Morris the best coach he’s had and says he deserves to get another shot as a head coach.

It shouldn’t be taken lightly for Ramsey to say that Morris is the best coach he’s worked with in his career. Prior to Morris, Ramsey worked with Staley (who is a head coach now) and Wade Phillips (a future Hall of Famer) since he was traded to the Rams in 2019.
In Staley’s lone season as the defensive coordinator of the Rams in 2020, Los Angeles produced the No. 4 ranked pass DVOA defense and the No. 3 ranked run DVOA defense. That level of defense was going to be tough to replicate, especially with the losses of John Johnson and Troy Hill in the secondary.
Even with the Rams losing personnel and having to deal with multiple alterations to the defense, Morris helped the defense finish as the No. 6 pass DVOA defense and the No. 5 run DVOA defense in 2021. While it’s easy to say that Morris doesn’t need to do much with Aaron Donald, Jalen Ramsey, and Von Miller on defense, he deserves a ton of credit for how well the defense has performed.
Morris was previously a head coach from 2009-2011 when he was with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who the Rams face in the divisional round of the playoffs this Sunday. During his three-year tenure with the Buccaneers, Morris had a 17-31 record, but he had Josh Freeman as his quarterback.
Since being fired in 2011, Morris has yet to receive another shot as a full-time head coach in the NFL. Before arriving in Los Angeles, Morris was the interim head coach for the Atlanta Falcons last season, going 4-7 following a 1-5 start from Dan Quinn.
With Morris being an assistant under Sean McVay, he’s likely to finally get another opportunity to coach a team in the NFL. And given Ramsey’s comments on Twitter, it’s clear that the All-Pro cornerback believes Morris would be more than deserving of a head coaching gig this offseason.
