Jalen Hurts named Big 12 Male Athlete of the Year

On Thursday, former Alabama and Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts was named the Big 12 Male Athlete of the Year.

Jalen Hurts not only won a national championship, SEC championship and Big 12 championship in his college career, as well as the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year in 2019, he was also named the Big 12 male athlete of the year on Thursday.

This marks the 3rd straight year that an Oklahoma quarterback has won the award.

The male and female nominees are submitted by Big 12 institutions and selected, based on athletic performance, academic achievement and citizenship, by a media panel as well as fan voting conducted through Big12Sports.com.

In his one season at Oklahoma, Hurts ended his campaign as the Heisman Trophy runner-up and finished the season with a career high 3,851 yards passing, as well as a career-high 32 passing TDs. He also added a career-best 1,298 yards rushing and career-high 20 rushing touchdowns.

He also Hurts led the nation in yards per pass attempt with 11.3 yards which was a new FBS record, and ranked second in passing efficiency rating with a 191.2.

In his college career at Alabama and Oklahoma, Hurts recorded almost 9,500 passing yards and 80 touchdowns along with almost 3,300 rushing yards and 43 rushing touchdowns.

Jalen Hurts was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
