Jake Marshall is rounding into form for Rutgers baseball

Rutgers baseball is getting a strong contribution from Jake Marshall.

The first few weeks of the Rutgers 2023 baseball season have been a rollercoaster ride. While the Scarlet Knights are 12-8, they have been streaky at times. However, they have won six of their last seven games. In that span, Jake Marshall has been lights out and set the tone on the mound.

In his last two starts, the Baldwinsville native has only allowed one run in ten innings of work. During that stretch, he has struck out 17 batters and only allowed one hit. While he has walked eight batters during that stretch, Marshall has shown a talent for working out of trouble.

Additionally, the Baker High School product has started to pitch deeper into games. In his two last starts, he has pitched at least five innings. In his first three starts of the season, Marshall’s longest outing came on March fourth when he pitched 3.2 innings against UNC Greensboro.

As the Scarlet Knights look to continue their recent play, pitching will be critical. Marshall is starting to show that he can lead the rotation while putting a frustrating start in the rearview mirror.

The key for Marshall will be to continue limiting baserunners. His strikeout stuff has been on full display lately, and he is giving the Rutgers bullpen some rest. He will be a player to watch as the season continues and the Scarlet Knights look to rise in the Big Ten standings.
