Jaguars take a DB in CBS Sports 2023 NFL mock draft

CBS Sports has the Jaguars taking Georgia defensive back Kelee Ringo in their 2023 NFL mock draft that it released on Tuesday.

Yes, the 2022 NFL draft just concluded on Saturday, but it’s never too early to start thinking about next year’s draft. Besides, there’s a good chanc that the Jacksonville Jaguars will hold an early first-round pick in 2023 again.

CBS Sports released its 2023 NFL mock draft on Tuesday and determined the order based on SportsLine’s Super Bowl odds, but in reverse order. The Jaguars currently have the fourth-worst chance to make the Super Bowl, so they have the fourth pick in this mock draft.

In this one, Ryan Wilson has Jacksonville giving quarterback Trevor Lawrence more help on the defensive side of the ball in Georgia defensive back Kelee Ringo. Here is his justification for the selection:

Ringo is a long corner who moves well in space, and in Jacksonville, the team continues to build around Trevor Lawrence by … beefing up the defense. Again, who knows what this — or any — roster will look like 12 months from now, but there’s no denying that Ringo is one of the best CBs in college football.

It’s frustrating to potentially see the Jaguars taking another defensive player in the draft after only grabbing two offensive players in the 2022 draft. The team will probably emerge from this season, realizing that they need to arm Lawrence with more weapons.

This offseason the Jags added pieces around Lawrence, but the concern is that the receivers they added are average like Christian Kirk and Zay Jones. That doesn’t necessarily mean they can’t be above average, but until fans see it on the field, there will be concerns for the offense.
