The Jacksonville Jaguars will be interviewing former Houston Texans general manager Rick Smith Wednesday. His meeting with the team makes him one of two candidates they will host Wednesday, as ESPN’s Louis Riddick is also scheduled to interview.

Smith is a candidate who Jags fans know well as they’ve watched his teams from 2006-17 with the Texans being a divisional rival. He accumulated a 92-100 record in the regular season and a 3-4 record in the postseason.

After 12 seasons with the team, Smith stepped away from his role as general manager and executive vice president of football operations (a promotion he received in 2012) when his wife, Tiffany, was diagnosed with breast cancer.

While with the Texans, Smith led the front office as they drafted notables like pass-rushers Jadeveon Clowney and J.J. Watt (who Wade Phillips banged the table for), receiver DeAndre Hopkins, and quarterback Deshaun Watson to name a few. Unfortunately, many fans felt that hitting on his picks outside of the first round was more of an issue than his top picks.

With the season coming to an end, Smith has been a busy man receiving interviews with the Detroit Lions and Atlanta Falcons so far. Others could also have interest in him once the regular season is over, as his longevity with the Texans will intrigue teams.
