While there is a chance that Gardner Minshew II is the Jacksonville Jaguars’ franchise quarterback, many around the nation aren’t as high on him as the fans. That reflected in some recent odds by BetOnline, which has the Jacksonville Jaguars down with 9/1 odds to land Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott in 2021.
Of course, this all comes after the Cowboys weren’t able to come to a long-term deal with Prescott, forcing him to play on the franchise tag for the year of 2020. For now, that also sets him up to become a free-agent in 2021.
Coming in with even better odds were the Los Angeles Chargers with 7/1 odds, then the Chicago Bears, Indianapolis Colts, and Minnesota Vikings with odds of 8/1.
Odds for what team Dak Prescott will be on for Week 1 of the 2021 NFL season (BetOnline):
Chargers +700
Bears/Colts/Vikingsv+800
Cowboys/Jaguars +900
Raiders/Saints +1000
Jets/Steelers/Washington +1200
Panthers/Patriots/Titans +1400
Lions/Dolphins +1600
Bills +1800
Texans +2000— Odds Shark (@OddsShark) July 16, 2020
The Chargers absolutely make no sense for Prescott because they just spent a first-round pick on Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert. In the Vikings’ case, Kirk Cousins just signed an extension in March and would be a dead cap hit of $41 million if released in 2021. Though it’s possible they could trade him, it feels like he’s Minnesota’s quarterback for the next two years at least.
As for the Jags, many shouldn’t be so quick to count Minshew out because there were some encouraging signs he showed in 2019. He kept the Jags in most of their games, had a couple comeback drives, and ultimately was the quarterback to start in all of their wins. Besides, one would hope that the Jags front office has learned from spending big-time cash on quarterbacks from the free-agent market, as Nick Foles prove to be a catastrophic mistake.
