Jadeveon Clowney on free agency status: ‘I’m still open’

It appears Jadeveon Clowney isn’t any closer to making a decision.

We haven’t heard from Jadeveon Clowney in awhile, but unfortunately he didn’t give us much of an update on his status after speaking with Josina Anderson recently.

The free-agent pass-rusher doesn’t sound like he’s any closer to making a decision about where he will play in 2020. Instead, he intends to keep waiting in order to secure the best deal possible.

Clowney says he plans on signing with a team “before the season starts” and that he has not “narrowed down a final team” and is “still open.”

One would assume that Clowney would make a decision prior to training camp, which starts on July 28 for most teams.

If he were to sign after that or closer to the start of the season, he’d put himself at a huge disadvantage — especially if he signs with a new team — in what could be a “prove-it” year where he’s trying to post his best season in order to secure the mega deal he didn’t get this offseason in 2021.

The Tennessee Titans have voiced their interest in Clowney on numerous occasions, whether it be general manager Jon Robinson or head coach Mike Vrabel.

However, it remains to be seen how much longer the Titans are willing to wait. After all, Tennessee does have a significant amount of cap space left and some remaining needs, one of which Clowney would fill.

Perhaps the Titans will go the safe route and sign another player or two to help them with that money, but it’s also possible they are simply all-in on Clowney at this point and will wait it out.
