Jaden Springer waiting in the wings for opportunity to play for Sixers

Young Jaden Springer is patiently waiting in the wings for his next opportunity to play for the Philadelphia 76ers.

PHILADELPHIA — Young Philadelphia 76ers guard Jaden Springer has yet to get his shot in the NBA. The No. 28 pick in the 2021 NBA draft has played a just seven games in the league and averaged just 1.3 points in his limited time.

The Sixers have title aspirations, so will play proven veterans rather than a 20-year-old who has not yet experienced the rigors of the NBA and still needs development.

Therefore, Springer has spent a lot of time with the team’s G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats. In the 2022-23 G League showcase, he averaged 17.7 points and 2.2 steals while shooting 54.2% from the floor and 31.3% from deep in six games.

In two regular-season G League games, he is averaging 20.5 points and 3 steals while shooting 57.7% from the floor and 3-for-6 from deep. The work he continues to put in has begun to show on the floor.

“I’m feeling great right now,” said Springer. “I’ve been working on my game as a whole, my shooting, my finishing, and stuff like that. I feel like you can finally see it develop.”

The Sixers like Springer’s ability to defend the perimeter, so one has to figure he will get an opportunity sooner rather than later. Until then, the young man out of Tennessee is waiting in the wings.

“I can’t wait,” he smiled. “I know it’s taking its time right now, but it’s all part of the process. So I’m just doing what I gotta do. Day in and day out and just whenever my time comes, I gotta take full advantage of it.”
