Jaden Ivey joins Grant Hill, others in Pistons rookie history

Ivey helped the Pistons to a win on the road over the Jazz and joined the likes of Isiah Thomas and Grant Hill in some team history.

Jaden Ivey helped the Detroit Pistons to a win on the road over the Utah Jazz on Wednesday and joined Isiah Thomas and Grant Hill in the team history book in the process.

Ivey produced 16 points, six assists, five rebounds and one steal in the 125-116 victory. He scored 12 points in the first half and finished shooting 5-of-13 overall from the field and 6-of-7 from the free-throw line in 32 minutes of work.

The fifth pick became the fifth-fastest rookie in team history to reach 300 career points. He did so in 19 games, trailing only Kelly Tripuka (18), Bailey Howell (18), Grant Hill (15) and Isiah Thomas (14).

Ivey has emerged as a key player for the Pistons this season as the team deals with injuries to Cade Cunningham, Saddiq Bey and Isaiah Stewart. He has performed at a high level and is seemingly improving on a nightly basis.

He is also establishing himself as one of the top first-year players.

Ivey is averaging 16.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.1 steals on 42.1% shooting from the field. He leads the rookie class in assists and is second in steals and third in scoring. He also has the most double-digit-scoring games with 17.

Behind a quick start and the opportunity to log heavy minutes, Ivey should continue to produce each game and will likely find himself next to some Pistons greats throughout the year.
