The New York Mets know what’s on the line tonight in Game 2 of their wild-card series the San Diego Padres – their season. They must win to force a Game 3 or their offseason will begin way earlier than they or their fans would want it to.
Thankfully for the Mets they have Jacob deGrom on the mound. The righthander came out throwing absolute heat in the first inning.
Padres star Juan Soto went down swinging on three strikes that all hit over 100 mph on the radar gun. So much gas.
The first strike sent Soto to the ground. Seriously, check out that first strike and the watch in awe on the next two:

Good golly.
Those pitches were fast:
deGrom got Soto to whiff at 101.2, 101.8, and 101.6!
Those last two are the fastest pitches to get swinging strikes in the first inning of any MLB postseason game on record! https://t.co/4I6xPt6CM5
